Mile parade Saturday By Denise Summers,
Spotlight staff The Labor Day weekend
begins with the south side's return of the Miracle Mile
Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday. The parade's theme is "The Spirit
of Indianapolis." The parade route will
encompass more than two miles and will roll down Madison
Ave. from Southern Ave. south to Hanna Ave. The procession will
feature many different floats and entries surrounded by
various celebrity characters such as Boomer from the Pacers,
Freddy Fever from the Indiana Fever, Clifford the Big Red
Dog, Rowdie from the Indianapolis Indians and Do It Sam from
Cardwell Home and Garden. The Indianapolis
Metropolitan Police Department Motorcycle Drill Team will
make a return appearance in this year's parade, along with
the IMPD Mounted Horse Patrol, the Johnson Country Shrine
minicars and The Spotlight Newspaper staff. All entries will cruise
the Miracle Mile as several musical acts, including the
Perry Meridian High School Marching Band, the Southport High
School Marching Band, the Murat Shrine Band, the Indy 500
Gordon Pipers (a drum and bagpipes band) and a mariachi
band, among others play. In addition to the
parade, Southern Plaza once again will host "The Miracle
Mile Open Car Show" with more than 300 cars of every make
and model. For more information
